I saw The Cabin in the Woods yesterday with some homies. Walk with me:
I jumped off my seat three times. I never jump in my seat. It's got real suspense and real pop-out moments. When it wants to be, its actually scary.
It pokes fun at itself, and the horror genre on the fucking whole, better than I've EVER SEEN IT DONE. Freaking hilarious, again, when it wants to be.
It IS NOT torture porn, I cannot emphasize this enough. BUT, there was so much bloodletting, in so many impossibly interesting and unique ways, that as it's going on, and for more than a few minutes after, I simply sat there while this great sense of catharsis washed over me. NOT DISGUSTING, but mesmerizing and jaw-dropping- because of the creativity.
And last, no fucking cop-outs in this one. When its over, man, its really O-V-E-R. No survivors and no remorse. That is what true horror is about. Fuck happy endings.
Really, really, reallyreallyreally good. Anybody who hasn't seen it, go see it. But call me first- I'd love to catch it again.
